Shull Ag is a farmer-owned engineering and consulting firm based in South Carolina. Our approach is practical, farmer-focused, and grounded in real agricultural experience. We provide agricultural engineering, consulting, and conservation planning services that help producers strengthen operations, remain compliant, and position their businesses for long-term success. As a certified Technical Service Provider, Shull Ag offers specialized expertise that bridges the gap between policy, compliance, and profitability.

While our foundation includes extensive experience with NRCS and conservation programs, our focus today extends beyond compliance and paperwork to strategy, innovation, and enterprise development. We work one-on-one with producers to identify economic opportunities, expand income streams, and help them not be solely dependent on the federal government for cost-share dollars—bringing new dollars directly to the farm. Our team combines technical knowledge with firsthand farm experience to design systems that promote efficiency, sustainability, and growth.

Our Founder,
Melanie Shull

Melanie Shull is a seasoned agricultural business leader, conservation consultant, and regulatory expert dedicated to advancing sustainable farming and environmental stewardship across the Southeast. As the founder and CEO of Shull Ag, Melanie leads a dynamic engineering and consulting firm specializing in farm income development, conservation planning, environmental compliance, and regulatory strategy.

With a background that uniquely blends science, sustainability, and strategic advocacy, Melanie brings over a decade of hands-on experience in agricultural consulting, including deep expertise in USDA-NRCS programs such as EQIP and CSP. She is a Certified Technical Service Provider (TSP) and a Certified Conservation Planner, with extensive experience in irrigation, waste management, nutrient planning, and wetland restoration for clients across South Carolina and beyond.

Melanie holds a Doctorate in Pharmacy, equipping her with a strong scientific foundation that enhances her work in environmental compliance and resource management. She is also CEPSCI certified (Certified Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control Inspector), ensuring adherence to best practices in stormwater and erosion control on agricultural and construction sites.

In addition to her consulting work, Melanie is a dedicated farmer and owner of Shull Farms, a first-generation poultry, row crop, and cattle operation where she applies sustainable practices daily. Her passion for environmental advocacy extends into her involvement with the Conservation Districts, where she promotes farmer-led conservation and education initiatives as an Associate Commissioner for Aiken Soil and Water Conservation District and as a representative for the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) at the national level.

Melanie has recently been appointed by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster to serve as a Board Member of the South Carolina Conservation Bank (SCCB). The SCCB works with government agencies, land trusts, and other eligible entities along with landowners to conserve and protect South Carolina’s natural resources, forest lands, historical/archaeological sites, urban parks, and farmlands. The SCCB protects the beautiful land and resources of our state while respecting private property rights and placing importance on good stewardship of financial resources. To date, the SCCB has protected over 130,000 acres through fee simple acquisition projects and collaborated to protect just under 289,000 acres through conservation easements. Melanie will have the opportunity to be a voice for working agricultural lands and for protecting our natural resources as she begins working with this impactful organization.

Melanie is a trusted voice in state and national policy circles, serving on the National Conservation Planning Partnership Leadership Team, and has been instrumental in shaping permitting frameworks and conservation strategies that benefit agricultural producers. Melanie also served on the WaterSC Water Resources Working Group as one of four Agriculture stakeholder representatives. WaterSC was formed to develop a new state water plan and to ensure long-term protection of South Carolina’s water resources.

Whether she’s speaking on water regulations and climate-smart farming or navigating complex permitting processes, Melanie is a tireless advocate for the agricultural community—working to ensure that conservation and productivity go hand-in-hand.
